Dayton Daily News Investigative Reporter Lynn Hulsey Named Media Friend of the Year

Lynn Hulsey, an investigative reporter at the Dayton Daily News, has been named Media Friend of the Year at this year's Gem City PR Awards. The award recognizes an individual in the media who has built a trusting professional relationship that has benefitted an organization or client and the public.

Hulsey, who has been a full-time journalist since 1985 and with the Dayton Daily News since 1995, is known for her coverage of public corruption, chemical dangers, flawed public pension systems, and fraudulent social service providers. She is also part of the Path Forward solutions-based journalism initiative at the newspaper.

In March of 2023, Hulsey's investigative work found that Ohio has more train accidents and serious hazardous materials incidents during transport than nearly every other state. The derailment and release of toxic materials in East Palestine, Ohio is among the most serious. She followed up with a solutions-based investigation in April, revealing the struggle of local families to find affordable, quality child care and preschool.

Hulsey's journalism has been recognized with awards from the Associated Press, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Education Writers Association’s National Awards for Education Reporting, among others. In 2017, she was named one of the Dangerous Dames of Dayton by the League of Women Voters of the Greater Dayton Area.

"Lynn Hulsey is a great journalist – that’s evident in her thorough, thoughtful coverage of key issues that impact our region, like jobs, the economy, access to quality childcare, and politics," said Ashley Bethard, Dayton Daily News editor and chief content officer. "But beyond that, she’s a truly compassionate person who cares about her community and the people who live here – and I believe that’s one of the major reasons why she’s so great at what she does. Dayton is lucky to have her."

Join us in celebrating Lynn Hulsey’s achievements and her outstanding contributions to the Dayton community. The Gem City PR Awards ceremony will take place on May 24 at the Top of the Market, starting at 5:30pm. Don’t miss out on this opportunity to recognize the best and brightest in the PR industry. Register now to attend the event and show your support for Lynn Hulsey and all the other winners.
